Casbah   

Wish you could have seen Nirvana before it smelled like teen spirit? Or Alanis Morissette before everyone and their mothers had a prescription for jagged little pills? If you make the Casbah your new regular spot, you can check out tomorrow's big bands tonight -- or at least go deaf trying. Since 1989, the Casbah has been San Diego's premier venue for underground alternative rock. In addition to a modest cover charge (from free to $10) and reasonably priced drinks, the Casbah offers a smoking patio, pool tables and pinball. And contrary to what's come to be expected at some of these "alternative" venues, the Casbah has an amazing sound system. Combine that with a capacity that maxes out at just about 200 and you've got a low-key venue that features high-profile bands.
