Rate and Write a Review University Heights is known for its quaint cafes and restaurants, each with its own unique flair. El Zarape fits right in. After you pass through the thick antique pine door, you'll notice the care taken in making the interior feel warm and cozy. The low prices belie the wonderful quality of the food and its preparation. In keeping with the tastes of the locals, vegetarian dishes are offered, including a burrito full of steamed veggies. San Diego has gotten used to fish tacos establishments, so the kitchen has become famous for their scallop or salmon burritos. They also feature mole sauce on the house burrito, a Mexican favorite seldom found in little shops.

yum!
i live nearby so i take friends there quite a bit... they all agree this place is pretty darn good... i've never been disappointed...i highly recommend the machaca for breakfast and the classic carne asada burrito is amazing!
Delicious
I eat here on a weekly basis - the rolled tacos with soy are amazing!!
Not a good first impression
This was my first time eating at El Zarape in San Diego and I was not satisfied. My vegetarian burrito was horrible. It had burnt beans, hard potatoes and soggy lettuce. It was suppossed to come with the items above and also cheese, salsa fresca, sour cream, and guacamole. I had to get up and ask for my ingredients. For the money I paid for the burrito, $4.50, which is a lot of money for a vegetarian burrito, I thought it would be a bigger and of course have all of the right ingredients in it.
I love Mexican food but will not be eating here again.
Great find
Awesome and inexpensive fish tacos! Just remember to feed the meter!
