Rate and Write a Review Watching a game at the house that Jenny built is a zero-calorie sweet that treats fans to an all- seasons supply of exciting pro and collegiate sports. This multi-athletic complex must've been designed with an intimate, sports-minded and crowd-rousing feeling in mind. The stadium was originally built in 1961 for USD athletics but the $3.5 million expansion of this gem, which was completed in 2002 with the help of Cox Communications' high soccer ambitions and checkbook, helped bolster the stadium's growing reputation as the best place to watch a WUSA game -- hands down. The addition of approximately 4,000 seats to meet the ever-increasing number of dedicated Spirit fans magnetized by great soccer brought the total seats with decent views of the new video scoreboard to over 7,000. The remodel didn't interfere with the nice-and-close feeling fans get watching pro women's soccer and University of San Diego football and soccer at this well lit, frequently televised, sports shrine. The Natural Bermuda grass field, which was also expanded to give the Spirit a world-class-sized 70 x 115 yd. flat playing surface, is a vision of sports loveliness for all real-green-field stadium lovers to enjoy. -- Veronica Roberts Best Bet for Parking: Parking for Torero football and soccer games is typically free. To access free parking during Spirit games, enter through the West campus entrance off Linda Vista Rd., east of Morena Blvd. Free shuttles pick up fans at the West Lot and from the Kroc Center at the top of Marian Way, near the West entrance. Shuttles run 1.5 hours before kickoff and until a half-hour after the match. VIP, disabled and paid parking is available in the Mission Parking Complex located a short distance from the USD Main Entrance off Linda Vista Rd. The five-story complex, thought to be the only Spanish Renaissance parking structure in the world, has 964 parking spaces. Best Ways to Get to the Park: From I-8 West or I-5 North exit Morena Blvd. Turn right on Linda Vista Road. Turn left to enter the USD Main Entrance. From I-5 South, exit Sea World Dr. and Tecolote Rd. Proceed left through stoplight and turn right on Morena Blvd. Turn left on Napa and left on Linda Vista Rd. Stop at the information booth to request a free parking pass. From the booth, the parking structure is to the left and the field is to the right. Best Food At the Park: No sports- spectators' appetite for concession snacks is overlooked at this park. Whether you enjoy using an ice-cold soda to wash down a hot dog dripping in mustard or guzzling bottled water at camel speed, the stadium offers many consumables to quench your palate.
