Rate and Write a Review Tourmaline Surf Park's long, rolling waves attract a steady stream of old-school longboarders, which contributes to the mellow vibe. Be mindful of the "no-swimming" rules; this is a designated surfing and diving location only. The crowd is heavily local but gracious -- as long as your respect surf etiquette regarding wave territory. Body boards (known derisively as sponges) are probably not a good idea. Divers enjoy the underwater flora and fauna, but should check diving reports before coming down as visibility is variable. Though the beach receives more than its fair share of closures due to pollution (it's nicknamed "Baja La Jolla"), it remains a local favorite. A postage stamp parking lot, restrooms, lifeguards and cold showers make the beach well appointed for its size. If you plan on staying for the day, be sure to pack a cooler, as there are no nearby eateries. Dogs are allowed on the beach as long as they're leashed and you attend to them at all times.
