La Paloma has been surprising inland North County diners for more than a decade. In a region known more for hole-in-the wall taquerias and red sauce spaghetti joints, this Mexican restaurant has carved a successful gourmet niche. Serving the expected combination plates and margaritas, this restaurant goes one step further by creating dishes featuring fresh game, nouveau meats like ostrich, menu specials such as squash-filled enchiladas and several twists on the relleno. It bears mentioning that the relleno, that gloriously conceived but typically abysmally executed stuffed chile, reaches untold heights at La Paloma; first time diners would be wise to start here. Tucked behind a bank, fronted by a babbling fountain and decorated like a hunting hideaway, the hacienda offers indoor and sheltered outdoor dining. Dine alongside escaping parents, families celebrating special events and groups of friends looking to reconnect over margaritas and a good meal.

Delicious Halibut with Mango Salsa
By GayleHeller on 06/13/2008
Great service and GREAT halibut with a mango like salsa and black beans. The chips are 'okay' and the drinks need to step it up a notch. But the variety on the menu and excellent fish has us coming back routinely.

Best Mexican Food in San Diego County
By PDT310 on 05/26/2008
We have been eating here for over 20 years. It is without a doubt the best mexican food I have found. The sauce is dark and loaded with flavor. I have yet to have a bad meal here. The help and service is excellent. They have an outside patio that is the best. Looks out over a creek ans forest like sitting.

It's convenient
By pbridge130 on 03/09/2007
This restaurant has pretentions to haveing a pseudo-gourmet menu, but it's generally nothing more than mediocre. The blackened halibut tacos are reliably good, but every other dish I've had was disappointing. Generally so over-sauced as to be soupy. One much-touted seafood dish came out like a torilla with clam chowder poured over it. If you think that goopy, soupy, flour-based creamy sauces are gourmet, you'll love it. C'mon, La Paloma, you can do better.
