The Marine Room has certainly made a splash over the years: The restaurant has been voted "most romantic" over six times in less than a decade, and received The People's Choice Award numerous times. The awards may stem from the superior location alone: Many places claim to be right on the water, but during high tide, the waves actually slap against the windows of The Marine Room's dining room. The menu has seen much revision since its inception in 1941. Chef Bernard Guillas is probably San Diego's best-known chef, with recognition and awards pouring in from publications and competitions across the nation. His menu features an abundant variety of fresh seafood, lamb, poultry and a few surprises, all touched by Guillas' superb imagination for background flavor and exquisite presentation. No matter how full you feel after dinner, try to save room for the Kona Kahlua creme brulee. Sunday brunch is the highlight of the week for seafood lovers, with a "Seafood Tasting for Two" appetizer, and main dishes such as fennel-crusted Alaskan halibut and gingered Maine lobster tail. Live entertainment and dancing are on the menu during the latter part of the week.

YOU NEVER KNOW
By robmaxtrek on 01/03/2007
I have had many dinners there over the years. Business friends love the "on the beach feeling." However, I have had good meals there, as well as, meals that no one at our table cared to finish. It is no longer on our list to take friends.

Marine Room DISAPPOINTS AGAIN
By yellowpagessuck4 on 09/19/2006
We arrived with out of town guests on time. We waited 30 minutes; no explanation and there were empty tables on the floor. We sat at the table to find wet glasses just out of the washing machine that smelled of dirty seawater and detergent- hardly appropriate for wine or water to have unpolished stemware. Waiter was inattentive and unfriendly. We didn't have water on the table for 15 minutes. Never received a smile from anyone in the restaurant. Numerous items were unavaialable on a Saturday night, including a special salmon that was modified from the menu. Paid $46 for overcooked salmon entree. The wine list is heavy on california cabernet and chardonnay, neither of which complement the over-the-top food. If this is the best San Diego has to offer, we're light years behind SF, LA, and NYC with regard to service, attention to detail, a serious wine program, and quality of food vis-a-vis prices. Stay away at least until they renovate the drab interior to something that looks remotely like modernity and someone can revamp the attitude at this overpriced, overrated, and entirely disappointing establishment.

OVERPRICED FOR WHAT YOU GET
By purplesalsa1 on 07/28/2006
It is true that the view is beautiful but there are plenty of other places in San Diego to get great views. The food is just so-so unless they've completely change the menu since last time I was there.
