Perhaps the first customer to sign one of the paper lanterns that hangs above the unusually long sushi bar was just being rude, but it has become in-house custom to try and find enough space on one of the glowing globes to scrawl some feign at deep truth, or maybe a limerick. Sushi chefs are numerous in order to staff the large bar and provide for the dining room. Samurai serves some of the best sushi in town thanks to a combination of chef skills and unyielding freshness and quality of fish. They don't do nouveau rolls with a bunch of inauthentic ingredients; only classic styles that display the respect a true sushi chef has for the food. If sushi isn't your thing, there are plenty of meat dishes like chicken tempura or sukiyaki (sliced beef and vegetable soup). The teppan room is also an entertaining pick for a fun date or group of friends. Watch as deft hands chop, flip and grill your meal on the tabletop griddle.

Disappointing
By kisses5425 on 04/09/2006
Service was horrendous. I've never felt so unwanted in a restaurant before. Our waitress took our order and gave us our check. That was the extent of her service. She didn't even bother to ask us if we wanted dessert. At least the hostess refilled our water glasses. The manager didn't even bother stopping at our table. He went to every table around us except ours. We felt so rushed to get out even when the restaurant wasn't full. The food was okay. Not what I expected from a resturant with such rave reviews. The shrimp tempura was okay; average; nothing too special about it. The chicken teriyaki was salty. The sushi was extremely disapointing! The rolls were made poorly. The fish was cut unwell. The rice and fish were good though but not as exceptional as other reviewers had claimed. The presentation and creativity was boring and lacking. Portions are small. My friends and I were in and out within 30 minutes. We had came for a celebration but ended up leaving very disappointed.

OK Korean Sushi
By dalrtl on 05/14/2005
It's ok and it's owned by Koreans. I'm very picky about any restaurant. I don't want to eat at a place meant to be say, Japanese, but its owner is Korean or otherwise. They f*** our food up and they cook the way they eat it and that's not the way it is and that's not very tasty. There are tons of those Korean sushi places in San Diego and I only go to one that is owned by Japanese, you'd better ask before you go there, so you won't waste your money!!!!

Decent Sushi
By terlh59 on 02/02/2005
This restaurant is one of the busiest establishments in the NoCo thanks to the very loyal customer base, good food and excellent service. The sushi however, is far from the best. The portions are small, the presentation is boring, and the creativity level is zero. Fresh but boring for the $$$, cuz it is not inexpensive. For Japanese dining this is a wonderful restaurant, for sushi fagetabotit.
