Very biased
By questionrealitee on 02/02/2008
Recently went in to Sushi Ota, san diego native 30 years. It was a thursday night and there were several open tables and several open seats at the sushi bar. The hostess did not even make eye contact and in a very snob voice said no seat till 9:30 looking at my watch, 6:30 pm, asked if they were booked on reservations no answer, asked again, no answer. Turned around went to Samurai. Later I asked another long time La Jolla native and he had learned that there are two menus one for Japanese and one for Americans with different quality of food. My date and I were dressed for a night out on the town so my only conclusion is that they were biased towards us.

Maybe we went there on an off night for the staff but the service sas just okay and the fishy smell as we walked in was almost enough for us to turn around and walk out without a try. We probably should have turned around and went down the street to the Bay Park Fish Company.

Lame Reviewers

Sushi Ota is one of the best Sushi resturants I have been to. I have friends who travel from far to eat ther it has always been the freshest, most innovative preparation and presentation as well as a huge variety of offerings. The service is often a mirror of the guest. Drop reviews from people who admit that they have never been there and those who have an obvius agenda. Unfortunately not many recent reviews, perhaps "City Guide" is not the place to post!
