Rate and Write a Review Centuries ago, inns used to soothe stagecoach drivers after a long journey with a yard-long glass of ale. Finding parking in downtown San Diego can really take it out of you, so The Yard House happily serves guests hoppy goodness in the classic yard, half yard or little tiny pint (for those who can't handle three feet of beer). This is beer lovers' paradise, because in addition to the monstrous serving sizes, the selection itself is overwhelming, with around 130 beers on tap. Try to imagine what a yard-long black and tan would look like (that's a foot and a half of each color). The menu was built in consideration of the beer theme, including the types of food that go best with the beverage. Guinness with fish and chips -- is there a more classic combination? Grilled pork tenderloin with barbeque rum glaze, mashed potatoes and spinach is just begging for an Irish Red. Porcini crusted halibut could match well with either a brown ale or a Hefeweisen. For something a little more on the edge, a great match would be the spiciness of their seared sea scallops with wasabi mashed potatoes and the sweetness of a pear cider.
