Rate and Write a Review All of Cafe Zia's dishes are based on a simple, yet exotic base of chutney, a thick sauce from India containing fruits, vinegar, sugar and spices. If you ask what fruit might be doing in a taco, wrap or bagel sandwich, the answer is simple: It's creating a sumptuous blend of flavors that leaves you craving the next bite. Visitors to this shorts-and-sandals cafe can choose from one of six exotic chutney fillings including Giant Peach, Tropical Breeze or Tangerine-Lemon. Owner and chef Khaled Zia, of Afghanistan descent, adds delicately spiced chicken or tofu to each delightfully healthful and tasty dish, and the result will leave you happily full.

the mango
I was a little scared of the chutney. But then the dude I was with, his name was mango, he told me to be cool. I ate the chutney... the mango chutney... and now I am no longer scared. I want to be surrounded by chutney for the rest of my life. I love the chutney and have embraced it as a crucial part of my life. I thank God for all chutney... and mangos. This is the King sayin go to Cafe Zia and get the Mango Chutney.

I've been eating here for 5 years, and I love it!!! So healthy and yummy, and Khaled always remembers me when I come in and I am greeted with a smile and fun conversation. Nothing better near State.
One of the best spots in San Diego
Cafe Zia has one of the best menus of any place in San Diego. I eat here at least once a week.
