One of the mainstays of late-night San Francisco, this 16,000 square-foot megaclub serves up three levels of dance floors, bars, and a cadre of regular and guest DJs that spin Fridays through Sundays well past 5AM on most of those nights. Club goers can dance to trance, house, drum and bass, and other forms of electronic music in five distinctive dance rooms with big lights and even bigger sound. Friday nights at the club, aptly called Friday, and Saturday nights, called Release, can be massive meat markets with lines extending around the block. Sunday nights, called Spundae, are rooted in San Franciscos rave past. While todays Spundae is hardly an underground event, it is more likely to appeal to techno diehards. Bring your ID and plenty of cash, and be prepare to sweat on the larger dance floors.

HUGE club/cheesey trance music
By mcpjlim on 01/28/2008
The club is way past it's prime which was at least 15 years ago (when EVERY room was packed; now it only happens when Paul Van Dyk is in town or the Burning Man crowd parties). The renovation to the interior is nice, especially after the gang shooting in the lower level, but the asian gangsters still frequent this venue more than the other mainstream clubs. Try as they might, 1015 can't seem to break their negative stigma and only the hardcore tranceheads are keeping this place going (only a few times a year do they host decent alternative genres). If you'd rather be stuck in a 90s trance timewarp, then this is the place, but if you want to get with the times and catch up with the rest of the world, there are better clubs with MUCH better music, to go to.

Its an OK club
By grendaisygrl1039 on 06/06/2007
Ive been there about 6 times. The first time was for my 21st birthday and I had a BLAST!!! There were only 3 floors open that night, but they all played the type of music I like (R&B in the main floor, Trance on one floor, and some drum and bass in the basement). All the other times I have been there have been HORRIBLE! You really have to find out ahead of time what type of music its going to be before you go. I once went there, and there were a bunch of girls playing violins wearing TuTu's on the main floor.. Another time they were having two different parties. Thats what their website said, which made it sound like the two parties were together. As soon as we get there, we had to decide Which party we wanted to get into. Some nights it was just plain EMPTY. It sucks going to a club when you and your friends are the only ones on the dance floor! I have been there once when ALL floors were open. They have like 8 or 9 different floors to check out. But ALL floors sucked. It was really packed and none of the floors were playing any good music. No Hip Hop, No Trance, No R&B. It was playing some weird music I have Never heard before. I am a music junkie, so when I go into a club and its playing odd music, it makes me wonder who is running this joint. Even if you check the website, sometimes it wont explain what type of music it is, so a lot of times it depends on the day.

just opened my new club season. first time in SF dance clubs. yesterday was at 1015 Folsom. Really didn't like this place. Music is great, DJs are great, sound is pretty good for R&B and house stage. But club atmosphere is bad - lots of doors, people walking all the times, no energy of dance in everybody. americans - 30%, all others - 70%.
