ANU   

Anu is a bar and lounge on Sixth Street, joining Club Six and Arrow to make a mini entertainment district in this vice-prone part of town. The streets outside may be bustling with illicit activities, but inside things are calm and cool. The small space is filled with low-lying benches, tables and stools and still offers enough room for standing around. The long bar that lines the entrance serves not only premium drinks, but also a selection of specialty infused cocktails with names such as "Speed" and "Lust." You can order panini sandwiches from the small menu, thus avoiding the need to wander the streets in search of food once the drinks are flowing. Urban art adorns the green and rust walls, and low lighting creates an ambience that brings in the bodies. After 10PM, rotating DJs take over the built-in turntables at the back of the room, playing anything from hip-hop to high-energy house music. Big-name DJs who have performed at Anu include Danny Howells, Steve Porter, Jerry Bonham, Mark Farina, Lee Burridge, James Lavelle, Nick Warren, D:Fuse and Miguel Migs. As its Web site boasts, "the DJ is central to the appeal of Anu."
