Avalon's glowing purple sign beckons from a strip mall off the Lawrence Expressway. Despite its less-than-cosmopolitan location, this dance club manages to attract dapper, dressed-to- impress dance lovers from all over the South Bay. Avalon is posh, creating a stylish marriage of opulence and old-school disco. The polished wooden dance floor is the club's centerpiece, where Silicon Valley's more sophisticated types let loose to contemporary pop. The surrounding tables are arranged to maximize sight lines to the stage and the dance floor. The Jungle Room, inspired by Elvis Presley's rumpus room in Graceland, goes a step further. There the ultra- highbrow can enjoy their Cuban cigars and cocktails in the room's lavish, private humidor lockers. -- Bernice Yeung

obviously the previous post had his/her a** kicked to the curb by the COOL security staff.Don't hate, I agree with your DJ comment, howerver the place is beautiful, and the crowd is cool as long as you are remember,"The Love's gotta be stronger than the Liquor!" -peace BRV, woosh

I don't agree w/anyone who gave the BackBeat a good review. -the place is always crowded w/ignorant losers -the dj's really blow (Dj Dan-music sux played a 3 hr.set with the same damn track all night (little pills/kills a mil. brainsells) -Their bartenders can't make drinks to save their lives. -their bathrooms are disgusting -the security staff are a**-hOLeS -all an all-they are worse then the clubs in tijuana. and the people there can't dance what-so-ever!

I have been going to place for 2 years now. I always have fun there and is the best club in the area. good mix of jams and great atmosphere, The bartenders are great and make good drinks and is not to expensive like some of the other clubs downtown. another good thing is the cops are not hanging around ready to get you when you leave and is easy access to the freeway. I would recommend this club to anyone that want's to have a good time.

I think the BackBeat is a great alternative to going up to the city. Sure, it's small, and the dance floor is always packed, but isn't that the way you want a club to be? Definitely not as ghetto as some other clubs I've been to. And it always helps to be hooked up on the guest list. ;)
