The SceneThe predecessor to this smart little hostelry was the landmark Sutter Hotel, which opened its doors in 1911. In 1984, the property was re-created in the hands of developer Bill Kimpton and interior designer Nan Rosenblatt. With a crystal skylight, etched glass and sculpted fireplace, the lobby reflects an art nouveau vision. Further renovations took place in 1996 and 2006, upgrading the rooms with flat-screen TVs and pillow-top mattresses; the service with a doorman and concierge; and restoring the lobby to a '40s look.The DetailsGuest rooms are small but exceptionally attractive, with yellow-striped wall coverings and Frette linens. Suites are well-designed in soothing colors, and feature Jacuzzis and fireplaces. Notable amenities include a short outdoor jogging track, well-appointed conference rooms and two restaurants: Brasserie Chambord and Perry's Downtown.
