Hotel Metropolis boasts the city's first hotel room just for kids. That signifies the style of company President Yvonne Lembi-Detert, who named her hotel group Personality Hotels because so many guests wrote on comment cards that her inns had "so much personality." The kids' room, which adjoins a parental suite, is complete with a radio pre-tuned to the Disney station, a chalkboard on the wall, bunk beds and a Cookie Monster soap dispenser. But grown-ups will have fun here, too. The hotel -- a 1930s landmark building cloaked in retro-Bauhaus decor with a theme of earth, wind, fire and water -- also features an evening herbal tea service, a holistic health room and a miniature Japanese tea garden. Oh, and every room has Nintendo, for the kid in all of us.

Bad service worst than the mold.
By rocherogan on 02/03/2004
I planned a trip to SF for an interview. The rpice was right because the neighborhood is scetchy at best, and I am talking daytime. At first, the front desk was OK, but the car parks were very rude and left our car unlocked with the keys sitting on the tire. The room was small and stuffy. There is no central air and the only heater you get is a small area heater nailed to the floor. We found a 3 by 3 foot span of black mold on the shower wall. When it cam time for the free continental breakfast - which is only served on the odd numbered floors. We found no pastries. When we called down to let the front desk know we were told kurtly to go to another floor if we wanted any pastries. When we contacted the management we got no response since there is only 1 manager for all of the "personality" hotels. Another hotel of theirs had caught fire that day. So we went home and wrote a letter to the management and called. Neither our letter not our calls were ever returned.
