If youre looking for an example of just how well- integrated San Francisco has become, youve come to the right place. Downstairs at this Polk Gulch landmark is a busy gay bar with the usual treats: good drinks, familiar music, attractive men. Upstairs, where drag shows once appeared on stage, live bands play hard rock every night of the week, attracting a young, mostly straight crowd that could care less that theyre in what has been a gay bar for more than 25 years. Windows all around provide an additional attraction, as Polk Street teems with a mix of yuppies, young men loitering on street corners, working folk and the down-and-out. On Sundays, football games bring in a mix men, some paying attention to the score, some trying to score, and others just there to admire the formfitting cut of the 49ers' uniforms. -- Brady Brundred
