Rate and Write a Review Hidden on an alley just half a block from Nordstrom's, Mezzanine is an art gallery, performance space and dance club. This versatile SoMa venue is a converted printing plant redesigned in 2002 by Audrey Joseph of the legendary San Francisco Club Universe. The space is decorated in updated industrial chic, with exposed beams, iron railings and big skylights. The chic part comes from the slick bar, great lighting and a sound system so clean you can eat off it. On the ground level there is one large dance floor that gets packed solid on weekends. During the week when smaller parties are hosted in the same space, they move in couches and partition off the room so that it feels intimate rather than empty. Upstairs in the balcony (or mezzanine) level, there is an additional bar and a nice balcony from which to scope out the scene and find your next dance partner. There is also a VIP area upstairs, with reserved seating and bottle service. During the early evenings and off nights, the club serves as an art gallery and performance space.
