As one of the few dance spots in the Upper Haight, this midsize bar and club has become a neighborhood staple, much like its namesake has for good teeth, strong bones and a healthy body. A front lounge area is filled with white seats and tables, but Milk's deeper interiors are dark with few decorations. No matter, once the DJs get cranking, you won't be able to see anything but dancing bodies anyway. At the beginning of the evening, dancers stick to the dance floor at the back of the bar, but by night's end, they'll spill out and turn the rest of the place into one groovin' party. Since opening in 2002, Milk has fortified its weekly schedule with hip-hop, soul and bass-laden deep house music. Expect moderate cover charges and a young, trendy crowd of urban dwellers.
