Mr. Smith's occupies the space formerly known as the Cloud Nine Motel. Replacing what was once a tiny venue in one of the city's grungiest areas, the three-level lounge and dance club in SoMa has pleased well-heeled patrons with its fast and friendly bar service, weekly drink specials and slick interiors. Sporting bare brick walls, vintage accents and leather banquettes, the dimly lit main room beckons guests to lounge, while the bare-bones basement holds a dance floor where resident DJs Ean Golden (Thursdays), Chris Harnett (Fridays), Mei Lwun (Saturdays) and guests spin tracks from deep house to hip-hop and 80's hits. In the upstairs VIP lounge, those with the big bucks drop cash on bottle service. Weeknight cocktail specials draw a steady stream of patrons. On Wednesdays, you pick it, and the bartenders make it for $5 during the "You Call It" Martini Night. On Thursday nights, enjoy half-price Champagne and Champagne cocktails all night long.
