Nordstrom, the Seattle-based retailer that has revolutionized the way department stores do business, has several shops in the Bay Area, including two in San Francisco -- one at Stonestown Mall and one in the San Francisco Center downtown on Market Street. Stonestown has better parking but downtown is far hipper. Nordstrom will do anything to help out a client -- remember that when you want to find a sales clerk at the Polo Rack at Costco. Nordstrom, among many other items, features Swarovski crystal earrings for only $50, and cool cheetah-print umbrellas for $28, which make nice, inexpensive gifts. Remember Nordstrom made its name first as a shoe store, so try the ankle-high Canadienne Ireland black boot which should keep your feet dry even in Seattle.
