Pay no mind to the surrounding urban grittiness for which Mission Street is known. When you approach the bright lights, fresh paint and red velveteen ropes that guide you into the Roccapulco, you'll feel like a bona fide "sper estrella" at the Latin Music Awards. Once inside, Roccapulco's dimmed foyer gives way to immense ceilings, a gorgeous hardwood dance floor that hints at the history of the Mission District (this was once a shuffleboard alley), a sea of beautiful people, and charming, stuffed booths that ooze with romantic chatter. Be sure you've donned your best duds, because the salsa dancers here mean business and they come dressed to kill. Depending on the night of the week, you'll be treated to DJs spinning your favorite salsa, merengue and cumbia, or smooth live bands. Arrive after 9:30PM on a Friday or Saturday ready to cut the proverbial rug, or come early on Wednesday, Friday or Saturday for free lessons (with paid admission).
