There is better Italian food in San Francisco, and even in North Beach. Not that the food here is bad, because it's not, it's just not the best Italian food in the city. That said, the restaurant has a few other important things going for it: a large outdoor patio, half of which is covered and heated to enable outdoor dining year-round; a vast and reasonably-priced menu; room and atmosphere that pleases both kids and adults, which makes for an enjoyable family dining experience; and live music most nights. Kids like the hot and cheesy lasagna and the "pick your pasta" option, which lets you pair any pasta with any sauce for about $7, while adults appreciate the reasonably priced wine list.

Bocce Cafe

After visiting several S.F. restaurants last winter, we chose Bocce because we were able to reserve a private room for our son's rehearsal dinner ( Intimate was the only request from the bride and groom). We confirmed this reservation several times, even 1 1/2 hr. before arrival time. When we arrived, Bocce had given this room to another party! We were devastated when we were seated like sardines (30) in a very public area. Our food was mediocre and some even returned it was so unappetizing. After planning so carefully, we felt we were really let down and we would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, certainly not a large party who has special needs. Bocce blew it big time!
