Look inside Goat Hill and you'd think you were in any American pizza joint: Checked tablecloths abound, paper placemats and markers are put out for the kids, the atmosphere is laid back and pitchers of beer figure prominently. But the approach to pizza is anything but middle America. For one thing, those pitchers are more likely to contain a microbrew than Bud. And then there's the pizza, which is outstanding from the bottom up. Goat Hill's thin but chewy sourdough crust is decidedly gourmet -- and in itself a reason to climb the hill. The tomato sauce is home-cooked and fresh-tasting. Toppings are inventive, running to the wacky (salami and green onion?) but they're generous -- which also describes the management. One of the best deals in town is all-you-can-eat Monday. Come between 5PM and 10PM and order by the slice -- as many and as varied as you like -- with salad included, for well under $10. Throw in a dazzling view of the bay from the back of the dining room, and you're definitely not in Kansas anymore.

Great thin crust pizza
By sbonagof on 01/07/2007
Pizza lovers tend to fall into two camps -- thin crust or deep dish/thick crust. If you are a deep dish or thick crust lover, then Goat Hill is not for you. Zachary's in Berkeley is the best. But if you like your pizza with thin crust, Goat Hill is about as good as it comes in San Francisco. My wife is from New York and complained about every other pizza place in town until we found Goat Hill Pizza. The AOL review is pretty accurate all the way through. I read the negative reviewer who said "tourists don't be fooled." What does that mean? I can't imagine any but the absolutely pickiest tourists or deep dish pizza lovers being anything other than perfectly happy with Goat Hill's pizza.

One of a kind!

I have been eating here for 26 years & I'm only 26 years old! My mom ate here when she was pregnant with me & we have been eating here on & off ever since. I hope they will be here for another 26 years or so, so that I can take my kids here. Great food, great atmoshphere, great people. You will really enjoy the historic Potrero Hill photos throughout the restaraunt. Great place to eat before or after the Giants game!
