The Sandoval brothers run the successful Maya in Manhattan, and decided to open one here. They decorated the odd-shaped space in a SoMa high-rise with lovely silver accessories and a wall of flowers in mounted vases, then wrapped the entire package in a peach-tinted interior. You'll find Mexican flavors but also the elegance of French presentation. The guacamole is served in a silver accented volcanic-rock molcajete. One great starter is the shrimp-stuffed chile relleno brightened with creme fraiche. We recommend such entrees as the mariscada -- succulent sea scallops, mussels, prawns and clams with black rice -- and the luscious mole poblano. Crepas de cajeta drenched in a sauce of caramelized goat's milk are a wonderful dessert.

Excellent service and food. My favorite appetizers: guacamole; quesadillas surtidas~ corn masa stuffed with oaxaca cheese, rajas & zucchini blossom salsa roja / crema fresca / cotija cheese; queso fundido with chorizo . Main Entrees: Chicken mole served on a bed of white rice and garnished with fried plantanas. Arrachera which is grilled hanger steak with rajas potato gratin, topped with guacamole and a mole cheese enchilada. Deserts: Crepes de cayeta, flan, tres leches, fried bananas.

One of SF's greatest secrets. From the moment you arrive, the staff lets you know that your visit is a welcome one, with no attitude. The bartenders friendly and mix incredible margaritas, the wait staff very capable, and the food isn't your usual faire. Everyone at Maya is working hard to be sure you'll return, and I have. Great food presentations, with taste to match.

WHILE ON A BUSINESS TRIP TO CA. A VERY GOOD FRIEND OF MINE TOLD ME ABOUT YOUR RESTAURANT. WE WENT WITH A CROUD OF 11 AND WERE SEATED QUICKLY AND EVERYTHING WAS SO WONDERFUL. THE FOOD.....YIKES.....DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS. I'D TELL ALL THE WORLD TO GO AND HAVE DINNER THERE IF THEY ARE CLOSE TO YOUR AREA. THE PUMPKIN SAUCE WAS.....JUST DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS. NOW...MY ONLY BACK FALL IS..''WHERE DO I GET THIS RECIEPT''?? 'A'
