$800 for Eleven Tablespoons

I classically dont do these kinds of restaurant reviews but having gone to Coi, I felt compelled to do so. I have eaten at some of the best restaurants from Tallivant, to Charlie Trotters, to the French Laundry. At each of these I gladly paid the price for a fabulous dining experience. Well I am here to tell you that Coi is NONE of these restaurants! My first clue should have been the table next to mine that warned me after my first course that bill produced "sticker shock"... but no I went ahead. My first disappointment was the menu's pricing which is not clear, and one may ask if it is purposeful. Ask your server about the exact pricing of your meal and about the forced 18% gratuity, if you dont you may just get a big surprise at the end of the meal when the check comes. We did the tasting menu which boasted only about three dishes that were just barely memorable, the rest were forgetful or just down right bad. The wine pairings were not always wine and included beer and very bitter vermouth, which tasted like bile. Not what you would expect for the price. The experience was an embarrassment to a chef that had one of the best reputations in the Bay Area. Sorry but this should not be a 2007 "city best"....
