The SceneCan your three-year-old ask for "edamame" by name? Lots of Palo Alto kids are weaned on Fuki Sushi, along with Stanford undergrads and profs tired of Tressider dining hall pizza. The clientele runs the Palo Alto gamut, and the sushi bar can be raucous. The rest of the restaurant is all about quiet sophistication, with private booths and low lighting.The FoodThe sushi and sashimi have many proponents, but the house shabu shabu--Japanese fondue with meat, cabbage and other veggies dipped in hot broth--is worthy of great praise. Many of the hot dishes that emanate from the kitchen--teriyaki, tempura and thinly rolled beef wrapped around stalks of asparagus--provide great foils for a sleek unagi maki or fan of yellowtail.
