In ShortThe minimalist decor centers on the long, curved sushi bar--a popular destination for Cal students and young professionals. Toro tuna, yellowtail and an avocado-laden Caterpillar roll typify the expansive menu. Numerous skewers and tidbits off the robata grill are also offered. Other dishes range from miso-marinated cod with crisped skin to sea bass with butter sauce and smoky grilled corn. Lamb chops are seared until the outer crust is thick and meaty.

The food was decent--and that's it for the food. Atmosphere is really nice and trendy and if you're willing to spend the $ for aura, go for it. If however, you're truly in the mood to go out to sushi in order to eat great sushi at an affordable price check out "Toyo" on Shattuck in N. Berkeley (next to Saul's).

I don't care what people say, this place blows. The sushi falls apart when you bite into it (which means the rice hasn't been marinated properly and tells of low quality seaweed), and the fish isn't all that fresh. Also, we caught them reheating the same strips of unagi over and over, which is a bad sign! You could certainly do worse than this place, but you could also do a helluva lot better. Anyone who knows anything about good sushi should be able to tell in a second that the stuff here is exceedingly mediocre. What's sad is that there really aren't any decent Sushi places in the East Bay, and because Kirala looks trendy, with its sleek decor and warehouse setting, people flock there and droves, assuming that the food must live up to the image. Well, it really doesn't. Please, if you actually want to experience *quality* sushi, do what I do and hop on the bridge to the city and go to Nagano or Ebisu, or even Sushi Groove (the one on Hyde).

My friend wanted to try this resturant in Berkley, she loves sushi and so do I. So we both went and we tried it out and it was great, the service were great and the food there were excellent. It was not too expensive and we will be back there again, the waiter was nice and we ordered tampura rolls, california roll, and tuna rolls too. It came with miso soup and a salad, and the place were big a the atmophere were nice. So was the people, after we were finished, they gave us oranges, and ice cream for desert. And they had great music and it wasn't too loud, but we will go back there again.
