Pungent roasted garlic salutes you as you wait to take one of a dozen nicely decorated downstairs tables for four (larger groups can sit more comfortably upstairs in the spacious party room). Large windows bring soft light into the dining room, while kids play with the crayons set out for them in glass jars on the tables. Pauline's has made a name for itself with a thin but tasty crust and its signature dish, yummy pesto pizza. But the Louisiana andouille pizza (sausage, bell pepper, green onions and fontina cheese), Italian combination (salami, sausage, green onions, mushrooms, garlic) and vegetable combo (mushrooms, green onions, bell peppers, garlic, olives, cilantro) are also big sellers. Italian and chicken sausages are house-made, and as many organic greens as possible come from the owner's property in Berkeley and Calaveras County. If there's a San Francisco-style pizza, this is it: Thin, ungreasy, and not so filling that you look like a calzone after dinner.
