The buzz that's built steadily since Tartine moved into Lady Baltimore's former space is entirely justified. Everything is delicious -- from the croissants to the quiche, the creme caramel to the fruit tarts. The gorgeous pastries on the counter and in the glass case are positively scrumptious, authentically French and completely sinful. There are savory options as well, including sandwiches with bread made by Tartine co-owner Chad Robertson. (Robertson and partner Elizabeth Pruitt formerly ran Bay Village Breads in Point Reyes and Mill Valley's Bay Village Bakery.) Try a croque monsieur, or a cheese plate with bread, fruit and nuts. Physically, Tartine is a slick, modern-looking bakery and restaurant with a European flavor. Mission residents can celebrate their good fortune with a sweet treat, or perhaps cry into their cocoa as foodies from all over the Bay Area invade their space.

Good but not all that

There are many good things on offer here, the wait not among them. And it's always busy, a bit rushed. And not always worth it.

From the orange cinnamon morning rolls to the everchanging fruit topped bread pudding this cafe always has a line and is never a disappointment.
