Located just a few miles from Stanford University in downtown Palo Alto, University Coffee Cafe is a mecca for thirsty Cardinals looking to get a caffeine fix. With an elegant wood- and brass-appointed interior and towering ceilings, University Coffee is one college hangout that's actually suitable for hosting out-of-town parents. Situated in the heart of the University Avenue strip, the coffeehouse is also a hit with local business types and wealthy Palo Alto matrons taking a break from a long day of shopping. With plenty of seating both in the airy interior and one the charming sidewalk patio, not to mention a scrumptious gourmet lunch and dinner menu, University Coffee has much more to offer than great java. Soups, salads and sandwiches, accompanied by beer, wine, or a perfectly brewed espresso, make dining at this little cafe a taste-tempting (and relatively inexpensive) experience. Friendly conversation is also easy to come by here, making University Coffee the perfect place to curl up with a book, recharge before a movie at the Stanford, or take up a friendly debate about world politics.
