San Jose gained hockey "street cred" in 1993 when it opened the 20,000-seat arena. Originally called the Compaq Center, the venue recently changed corporate sponsorship and is now known as HP Pavilion. Home to the San Jose Sharks, the arena (known in some circles as "the Shark Tank") has been consistently proving itself as both a sporting and performance venue: attention to regular upgrades in systems technology and facility upkeep is noticed and notable. But the Sharks aren't the only team in town; the Arena Football League's San Jose SaberCats also call the Pavilion home, hosting the 2002 ArenaBowl and winning their first league championship. World-class performers show up on a regular basis -- the past years have seen the likes of Tina Turner, Limp Bizkit, Eminem, Dixie Chicks, Cher, Kid Rock and Aerosmith. The occasional monster truck rally keeps it real for gearheads, while visiting circuses and touring Sesame Street shows keep it real for kids. -- Lisa Galloway What's nearby: Catch pre-game jazz and martinis at the Hedley Club or tank up on carnitas and margaritas at Chacho's Mexican Restaurant. Sleepy sports fans can rest their head at the oh-so-close Arena Hotel. Arena food: Grab a slice of San Jose's Round Table Pizza, or try the Arena Club or George's Arena Grill for more upscale eats. Extras: Over 65 luxury suites accommodate private and corporate parties -- the private restrooms alone make them worth the price. Access: Wheelchair accessible seating available at all price levels; Hearing-impaired fans can obtain free assistive listening devices upon request at the information booths -- a driver's license is required for deposit.

BEST PLACE IN TOWN!
By cvilfroy on 12/23/2007
I have been to several events over the years at the Pavillion for concerts and of course hockey, from the penalty box seats, section 200's and even suite tickets and by far the Pavillion is the best place to for any events and is my ONLY choice for big venue events! As my husband would say, there is not a bad seat in the whole place!
