South San Jose's Juicy Burger is named a local favorite year after year for its ability to satisfy all appetites at a reasonable price. The original Juicy Burger -- a hefty 1/3-pound patty - - delivers as promised, for well under $5. Heartier appetites can upgrade to a Super (1/2-pound) or Mega (3/4- pound) for just a few bucks more, and choose from toppings like mushrooms, bacon, chili and guacamole. There aren't too many options here for vegetarians, but there are quite a few non-burger choices, including a fish sandwich, breaded zucchini and the hard-to-find ostrich burger. Add some chili fries, onion rings or irresistible garlic fries to your meal and enjoy. The well- lit, well-appointed interior (quiet European-style prints decorate the walls) and a smattering of tables set up for sidewalk seating make Juicy Burger more like a French bistro than a fast-food joint. -- Maya Kroth
