A University District draw for decades, the pub is located in the basement of a nearly century-old Elizabethan-style structure that's just a block away from the U-Dub. It attracts a mixture of merrymakers, readers who relish getting out of their dorm rooms and sipping while they study, and pool and darts players. They can all easily co-exist because the substantial space is divided into a main area where the games are located, a less-boisterous back room with tables and graffiti-laden wooden booths, and a smaller room for "overflow" -- which happens much of the time. More than a dozen taps dispense a rotating assortment of local craft microbrews and a few imports. As the result of a change in state licensing practices, the pub added hard liquor not long ago. Accompany your beverage with an assortment of sandwiches and snacks from the kitchen. The pub also has one of the city's longest weekday happy hours, from 11:30AM to 6PM. -- J.T. Whiting
