Rate and Write a Review At this sophisticated and tiny bar-cum-bistro, life is in the details: from fresh-poached pears and house-made maraschino cherries to hand-crafted red leather cube seating. A labor of love for Sara and Bruce Naftaly, this space (named for their son, Sam) is as sleek, splashy and mod as their adjacent Le Gourmand is French country romantic. Beneath a fiery abstract floral mural, a skinny mirror running along one wall reflects torsos, not faces. Through narrow French doors lies a landscaped, awning-covered patio, refuge for smokers and a delightful retreat on a warm summer night. Sip a French 75 if you're feeling traditional, or sample one of the many inventive cocktails on offer (Sambar pear sour or blackcurrant margarita, anyone?). Only the finest ingredients are invited to the party, from top shelf liquors to the fresh, organic, and seasonal components of the short, sweet bar menu. Share twice baked spinach souffle and Belgian frites with a friend, but order two of the mini croque monsieur sandwiches to avoid a scuffle breaking out. Finish with a selection of cheeses or a dessert, such as 'Brandy Alexandra,' a chocolate and brandy sabayon. Every person who works here makes you feel as welcome as if you'd just wandered into your own living room...sometimes making it hard to leave.
