Rate and Write a Review If you live in Seattle, you know that the center of the universe has changed over the past five years. Drifted, re-focused, call it what you will, but the once hippie-filled Fremont neighborhood continues to move towards the mainstream middle-class. Drawing from the old and new Fremont image, ToST provides a welcomed addition to the neighborhood bar scene. Remnants of the old, sheet-metal shop quietly make their history known through exposed pipes, the deeply pitted concrete floor and corrugated roof. Low-voltage accent lighting, dark-green wood walls and a stylish bar stand in contrast, but with unpretentious style. Though popular micros fill the taps and bottles and table-tents list trendy cocktails, its the extensive wine list -- more than 20 by the glass -- and specially priced flights that separate ToST from competitors libations. Along with the folk, funk, acid jazz and world music, they book Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Its clear that owners Tanea and Tim Stephens have a passion for casual settings, relaxed conversation and easy-drinking wine. Freemont has its frat bar, a local meat market and three pubs of notoriety; now ToSTs open feel -- outdoor and fireside seating -- offers those previously left out an oasis to call home. A special treat to non-smokers: Tobacco handlers must take their butts out to the deck or sidewalk out front. -- J Paul
