One of Seattle's top two jazz clubs, Tula's sits unassumingly among the trendy restaurants and hipster bars of Belltown's Second Avenue. Unless there's a line waiting at the door, you're likely to walk right by. Inside there's an intimate stage packed with tables on three sides, and a small bar against the back corner. Exposed beams run the club's ceiling in darkened greens, while ever-drawn blinds lend a cozy atmosphere to the space and keep street traffic from distracting the show. The most impressive thing about Tula's is the club's variety and sheer tenacity of putting on shows, which draw from the best up-and-coming, local and national jazz talent seven nights a week. Unfortunately, they've been known to charge for a glass of tap water on top of the cover, if you aren't dining with them -- never a good sign for places that are supposed to be "all about the music" -- but it's not a problem for those who plan on having a couple of drinks with the show. While they do their best to get everyone who shows up inside the door, reservations are recommended as many nights sell out.

Monday Nite Jam
By friggitano on 04/24/2007
Checked out the Monday nite jam at Tula's. Rather light crowd (maybe 25-30 people total). Practically all either song/played thruout the nite. Most were pretty good. Probably preferred to see just one good local jazz act but interesting concept. Room decent size. Good acoustics. Overall nice experience.

Don't miss the second Tuesday of each month when the Emerald City Jazz Orchestra plays. It will blow you away. Great Jazz! For dinner we started with deep fried calamari rings as an appitizer, one of us had the great spanikopita the other a wonderful rich cantalone.

How 'bout some real Seattle jazz veterans. Like Danny Ward & Reality. Too many shave-tails, wet behind the ears. Give Danny a shot along with northwest all-stars like: Rich Dangel, Sarge West, Tim Haines... check out Danny's website: dannyward.comCheers!

Terribly service and rude. I have been told if I didn't like that I should leave. I am a very simple guest. I just want my drink and food ordered correctly with polite service. The door man just wants your money and won't even answer questions. The cocktail waitress with the short blonde hair is incredibly rude and I won't even sit in her section anymore. I would recommend avoiding her section at all costs unless you want inattentive snotty server who argues with you about her mistake. I never have felt that my business appreciated there. I use to frequent Tula's often because I know some musicians who play there. Now, because of the fact they don't appreciate music lovers who do spend money in there, I frequent other clubs. It is sad but unfortunately they don't care. That enviroment ruins the music for me.
