Rolling out some of the most paper-thin pastas in Seattle, chefs (and owners) Jordi Viladas and Carla Leonardi take extra care in preparing dough that is not only delicious -- but also almost transparent. Delicate raviolis sit in pouches that are practically see-through, while the Cafe's trademark lasagna (a must order) stacks itself with seven floating layers of herbed ricotta and bechamel sauce. But you can't really go wrong with anything drizzled in the house marinara sauce -- its signature tomato-fresh flavor is what keeps Cafe Lago devotees coming back year after year. Keeping up with all things thin, Lago's crisp, flatbread pizzas are wood-fired to doughy perfection. The Giardiniere is a house favorite -- roasted red peppers, red onion, fresh basil and mozzarella. For a more adventurous order, weekly specials often take chances where the menu stays more traditional. Try to catch Cafe Lago when they are serving eggplant lasagna or butternut squash ravioli -- both are a rare feast for the eyes as well as the tongue.

I KEEP TRYING TO LIKE LAGO
By seattlepro on 09/08/2006
I just cannot understand why people flock to this overpriced place with its pretentious service, small portions, and high prices. The pizza is a ripoff, with fragile crust and minimal toppings in a flavorless combination. I live in the neighborhood and have vowed to ignore this place from now on in favor of real pizza places. The food is overrated, leaves me hungry, and my credit card exploited Stay away.

being from NY, good italian food is hard to come by in seattle. cafe lago has the BEST lasagna around, light, fresh...perfect. for a neighborhood restaurant the prices are a little high, but worth it.

overrated

The ravioli was dry and tasted like cardboard, and the pizza lacked flavor. For some reason this restaurant receives better than average reviews. I think this is because the chefs try to create food that is different than what you can get at other so-called Itailian restaurants. As for quality of food this is probably the worst mid priced restaurant that I have ever been to.
