At this tall, deep, and elegant alternative bar, the staff is delightful and boys outnumber girls most of the time (except for the fabulous drag nights). Though Purr rarely feels overwhelmingly like a pick-up joint, it's pretty evident none of the numerous regulars have been either spayed or neutered. Booths line the exposed brick wall opposite the bar, sofas crowd the front lounge, and muted pendant lights criss-cross the room overhead. With luck you'll be able to snag the cushy purple sofa in back -- or, better yet, the round, red loveseat that's tailor-made for curling up with a littermate or two. Open to all on weekend nights, a small, very low private room tucked way upstairs feels rather like an opium den. The short-ish menu of little and big bites is all Mexican, good nibbly bar food to keep Tom (and Thomasina) cats on the prowl well into the wee hours. Lap up the cafe con leche, made with coffee liqueur, vanilla vodka, butterscotch schnapps and cream, but the signature bevvy is the popular Purr-tini, containing fresh lime, vodka, raspberry liqueur, blue Curacao and cranberry juice -- ever so ''Sex and the City.'' (Or, possibly, ''Bi-Sex and the City.'' Meee-oww!)
