A flagship store that has been in operation since 1928, Uwajimaya provides the city with a wide variety of products imported from the Far East. There are gallons of soy sauce and miles of different noodles to choose from, but Uwajimaya also stocks hard-to-find produce (banana flowers, durians, lotus root) and live seafood (tilapia, prawns, oysters). The pickled squid, Pocari Sweat and Pichi-Pichi will be most familiar to Japanese expatriates. An enticing food court offers a host of freshly prepared Asian dishes for lunch or dinner, and there's even a gift arcade packed full of kitchenware, books, clothing and artwork. The offering here is exotic fare, but the atmosphere is as bustling and American as your average supermarket, with kids haunting the candy aisles and a full house in the food court at noon. The clientele is culturally mixed, making this ground zero for those who know which variety of kim-chee they're seeking and a great place for neophytes to expand their horizons.

So many new and diffrent things to look at. Unique tea and dishes and candy and toys, something for everyone and resonably priced. We always make it a stop when we go to Seattle!
