The remarkable thing about B&O Espresso is not just that it has graduated far beyond its simple beginnings as a coffee bar. But B&O has accomplished an astounding diversification that transformed it into a neighborhood bistro that happens to have java heritage. With eclectic, theater-poster decor, rummage-sale tables and chairs and a dark color scheme, this place exudes hipness from every corner. You can trundle in any time of day and grab a coffee drink, scone or muffin, but the real notables are the after-5PM tapas and desserts. Supper might consist of a pork tenderloin plate with sweet potatoes and ancho cream sauce, goat cheese fondue or Middle Eastern phyllo concoctions. Dessert should include at least one helping of the sour cream lemon pie, with the onus on your companion of choosing among peanut butter tart, cream cheese brownie or a dozen other delights. If you want a whole pastry item, call beforehand. Just don't skip dinner.
