Rate and Write a Review In the heart of Belltown, one certainly can't expect the skies to be not cloudy all day. But robust and exceptional sandwiches nonetheless roam freely at the affable Buffalo Deli. Owner Kathleen Haggerty's pedigree is impressive -- she graduated from the CIA (the cooking institute in Hyde Park, NY, that is), honed her skills on fishing vessels in Alaska, and then opened her sandwich, soup and salad shop to great acclaim. The uninitiated may insist that a sandwich is just a sandwich, but anyone who's been privileged to live or work near a great delicatessen knows there's much more to lunch than bologna on Wonder Bread. Take, for example, 'kimmelweck,' a caraway roll that becomes the final resting place for a heaping pile of roast beef complemented by horseradish mayonnaise and au jus. Many swear by the pastrami. Even the egg salad, the traditional wallflower of fillings, becomes the belle of the ball when tarted up with a smear of tangy tapenade. Come back often, so you can try everything. And when cold season hits, make a special trip for the homemade chicken matzo ball soup, just like bubela used to make. -- Ginny Morey
