Just around the corner from the Japanese Garden at the Arboretum, Nishino conveys the same sense of serenity and order through the Zen garden in the foyer and immaculate place settings. Many if not most of the plates are intended for sharing family-style, so you'll have the opportunity to sample a number of Nishino's offerings during your visit. If you're adventurous and/or have a big appetite, consider the omakase, a multi-course seafood tasting spectacular. Choose either the five-seven course ($50) or seven-nine course ($65). While the selections depend on the availability of fresh seafood, they're likely to include green-lipped mussels, albacore tuna, surf clams, shrimp tempura, squid sauteed in sake butter with morel and asparagus, halibut salad, and scallop, shrimp and whitefish served ceviche-style. The restaurant is also noted for its extensive sushi bar and sashimi, with many patrons beginning their meal with the sashimi sampler. Dishes such as teriyaki steak and chicken, and vegetarian options broaden the appeal beyond seafood. There's no separate bar, but a full range of alcoholic beverages is available to accompany your meal. In good weather, enjoy this bounty in the restaurant's outdoor court. -- J.T. Whiting

Don't forget happy hour....
By Bluesmanaz1 on 10/13/2008
I was introduced to the restaurant by my son on a visit to Seattle. We were able to enjoy great sushi at happy hour prices. My son dines at Nishino regularly. The sushi was very fresh and well prepared and best of all, very reasonable at happy hour. A quick call to the restaurant should verify the happy hour time frame.

The preparation of the sushi as well as the freshness of the fish makes this restaurant the best on the west coast that I have experienced...
