Scooter's Burgers   

If you are driving up 24th N.W. looking for Scooter's, don't blink -- you might miss it. This Ballard fast-food institution occupies roadside retail space that is smaller than most Dairy Queens. Needless to say, on weekend nights in the summer, it can get a bit crowded. Expect fast- food prices, even though the burgers are top-notch and cooked to order. You can also get chunky, home-style fries, chicken, turkey and even vegetarian items. The shakes (try the coffee variety) are very thick and tasty. When the weather gets nice, a few tables outside under umbrellas provide some extra seating. This is a good place to grab a snack on your way to catch a flick down on Market Street at the Majestic Bay Theater.
