Peoples Pub   

A world away from the Asian-fusion cuisine that dominates Seattle's restaurant landscape, the down-to-earth People's Pub serves traditional German specialties such as schnitzel and spaetzle, accompanied by a long list of German beer. Service can be uneven, but if it's authentic German food you are seeking, this is one of the few places in Seattle to find it. It is obvious that the owners spent time in Germany, as the real-deal gloomy pub atmosphere is captured perfectly here. Large portion sizes and a great selection of beers (the menu points you to the appropriate ale for your dish of choice) make you forget the informal staff and the brown-toned and rather muted decor. In the one nod to the up-and-coming trendiness of Ballard Avenue, People's Pub features a rotating art display by local artists. Visit during happy hour (4-7PM) on a weeknight and get your appetizers and drinks half-off.
