Since 1967, this diner has achieved its goal of providing epicures with a late-night hang-out. Take refuge in a brown, high-backed booth or plant yourself at the main counter and prepare to be wowed. Between the people-watching and the view of the kitchen, you'll have plenty to keep you entertained. Try the bucket of clams, the Steak Sinatra (tenderloin medallions seared in olive oil, sauteed with artichoke heart and burgundy wine) or the hot sausage and pepper-cheese omelet. The wine list (yes, it's a 24-hour diner with a wine list) includes Dom Perignon. The prices aren't exactly rock-bottom, but the food and service are several notches above any other diner. There's a second location at Sea Tac airport. -- Amy DeZellar

I have visited the Thirteen Coins at the Airport Since 1974, and have never had a bad meal, In fact, untill I called the web site, I did not know they had 2 locations.

When at the coins, you HAVE to eat at the counter near the grill. The entertainment value covers the cost of your meal. The wait can be rather long. The bar area at the SeaTac (Highway 99) location is nicer than the one in Seattle. They are one of the few places to server sweetbreads. If you don't know what they are .. don't ask. Just order and enjoy. They used to have two versions but the menu now only has one. But the other -- which I think is called the Financier -- is still available and is my choice. And the price for this special dish is very low -- I believe around $15. The staff like to cook them and try very hard to make them perfect. They are more casual with routine orders. They server breakfast all day/night. It is hard not to order a breakfast, because the hash browns are so good, as is the bacon. But then, the burger is outstanding and you can get it cooked to order. Then you get to sample their very special thick-cut frys. Pasta orders are huge and generally ok but not special. They overcharge for wines -- which is too bad. I have never asked about corkage fees. It is due to that pricing policy that I did not give them 5 stars. This is DEFINITELY the best late night place and one of the best places for breakfasts.
