The premier landmark in the heart of South Bend's Historic District, the Tippecanoe Place Restaurant has a century-old tradition of gracious dining dating back to when the home was owned by the wealthy Studebaker family. Today the 40-room mansion remains furnished with fine antiques, handcrafted woods and massive fireplaces. Lunch fare includes French onion soup, stuffed portobello mushrooms, salads and sandwiches, as well as heartier entrees such as prime rib, grilled shrimp and scallop stir-fry, or seared Norwegian salmon. At dinner, choose from three cuts of prime rib, filet mignon, rack of lamb or lobster tail, followed by something sweet from the three-tiered pastry cart. The Tippecanoe also offers an extensive wine list.

excellent food & ambience
By electrajo on 08/08/2007
The food is wonderful, the history and architecture are amazing! The neighborhood might be a little run down but the The Tippicanoe Place (former Studebaker masion) is still a grand icon of an earlier era. It is well worth taking the time to visit and have a meal there while in the South Bend area.

Outstanding in all areas!
By mattmoon90 on 02/18/2007
The mansion is very nice and kept in very good condition. The service is outstanding. My glass was never empty and I didnt have dirty dishes on my table long at all. The roast tenderloin was very flavorful and the beef was tender. I had a bite of the filet and it melted in my mouth even though it was cooked medium. Overall, I found it to be a great experience for a fair price. Two entrees, an appetizer, and desert for under $60.

Not only is the mansion beautiful, but the service is superior. I have been there for a number of bunches and dinners, and have always been 100% happy with the meal. Make sure you take a look around the house before leaving! Extraordinary rooms, and amazing history!
