Despite the brewing vessels picture window and a shared wall with the University of Miami, this microbrewery, seafood restaurant and live music hot spot serves more professors than students. Owner Kevin Rusk claims that's because craft beer is more expensive, but there's method to his madness. Purposely not selling pitchers, Rusk avoids alienating the moneyed, mature Latin regulars who mostly live their side of busy Ponce de Leon. The custom-manufactured DME Brewery produces six different handcrafted ales. Featured brews all have names relating to the downed ship such as Triple Screw Light or Boiler Room Nut Brown Ale. Signature dishes cedar-roasted Chilean salmon glazed with citrus, rum and molasses and hop-smoked salmon cake salad combine fish with drink. If all this sounds inviting, college students shouldn't lose heart. Nights like Football Night, Family Fish Fry Night, Jazz, and Blues Jam Sessions have stowed aboard their weekly venue to welcome the uninitiated.
