One of the hippest small restaurants in the Palm Beaches, DADA lives in a Victorian house formerly inhabited by one Mrs. Tarrimore, whose ghost is said to wander up and down the stairs at night. How she manages to make her way through the throngs of post-punks, hipsters, artistes, musicians and fortysomething socialites that pack the place seven nights a week is another story. As its name implies, DADA's decor is surrealistic with high-tech touches. The eye candy is in the many interesting design touches (a ticking clock face projected onto the sidewalk, a horde of painted ants scurrying up a wall) as much as in the clientele (although there's plenty there, too). The menu is Pan-American and eclectic and includes things that you won't find elsewhere, like Indian fry bread, plus salads, roll-ups, snacks and full dinners. Live music, movie nights, poetry slams and parties ensure there's never a dull moment. Dada's bar is known for serving up stiff cocktails at modest prices in the high-end part of downtown Delray Beach. For $5.50 a drink, you'll get more top-shelf booze than any of Dada's surrounding competitors, plus a lighter ambience. Hip Gen-Xers can snag an apple martini and slide into one of the red couches in the back room where art graces the paint-splattered walls. The bar is small -- holding roughly eight chairs -- and decorated with candles. Mainly a hangout for twentysomethings, Dada books DJs on Friday and Saturday nights who spin fierce beats, from acid-jazz rhythms to deep-house pulsations.
