It's hard not to call this place 'Hans and Franz' Bierhaus, but whatever you call it, call it one of the most lively, entertaining spots in Coral Gables. A restaurant cum sports bar, Fritz and Franz Bierhaus prides itself on its 'oompah' atmosphere that promises pure fun. Waitresses in lederhosen evoke memories of the Sound of Music, as does the wood-paneling. An authentic 'Bierstube,' Fritz and Franz features a massive variety of Austrian and German brews; for those who buy only American, Buds are stocked. Fritz and Franz is filled with traditional beer steins, South German and Austrian artifacts and vintage tubas -- plus a wait staff that will occasionally break out in dance and song. An outdoor beer garden seats about 120 and caters to the still-smoking crowd. The food is basically the best of Austro-German cuisine, featuring schnitzel, wursts, sausages, roast chicken and, for the diet conscious, salads. In addition to Oktoberfest events, Fritz and Franz hosts a three day blues fest in February, live jazz nights and assorted fundraising events. Happy hour, in particular, is a wild 'oompahlicious' affair.

jesus christ, this is the worst ESTABLISHMENT ever. the manager is a douchebag, he's lucky his staff recognizes this and compensates. i wouldnt waste a dime at this place. you want beer? look elsewhere.

At least every two years I make a summer visit to Austria's lake district, the Salzkammergut or better known in the US as the area where the "Sound of Music" was situated and filmed. I have a great love for everything about this area and one of my special loves (beyond the breathtaking beauty) is the food (and wine) of this area. Harald and Peter have really done a great job of offering some wonderful selections from this storied area of the world. Hands down, they have the best Bratwurst, the best Schnitzel, the best Biers and you should really try Harald's daily specials including his Austral Burgers, his Meatloaf, his lamb shanks, his baked chicken, his potato salad or even his mashed potatoes! They use only the best and freshest ingredients. I often find myself walking past scores of other restaurants just to find out (and eat) what specials Harald, Peter, Chris and Jean have cooked up for the day. Another bonus is that the Bierhaus has a parking garage just above it, and it is the only restaurant in Coral Gables where you never have to search endlessly for parking...and when it is raining in south Florida, here is one restaurant where you never have to get wet to enjoy it! As a side note, Harald has always been one of the best proponents/ supporters of live music in south Florida and on Friday nights and occasional Saturday nights you can find some of the best bands available. In the past 6 months, Peter has taken over the management of the Bierhaus and he is doing a great job raising the bar and building on the great foundation that Harald had created. Thank you Harald and Peter!
