Where else can you waltz across on an oceanfront dance floor, under the stars, listening to live music -- sans sand in your shoes? Nicknamed the bandshell, the open-air Hollywood Beach Theater is dubbed the only seaside venue of its kind in Broward County. The Broadwalk in front of the theater's stage often doubles as a dance floor during live performances, holding up to 100 people. There's plenty of room to catch one of the many free big-band, swing and R & B shows on the venue's bench-like seating, which fits up to 500 people. The theater was built to replace a smaller theater that preceded it, in the years following the 1926 hurricane, according to the Hollywood Historical Society. The venue hosts three free musical series throughout the year, Monday through Wednesday from 7:30-9PM. -- Leah Gliniewicz
